StreamSCAPES at the EUI seminar on culture in EU policymaking
Representatives of the Horizon Europe projects ANIMA MUNDI and StreamSCAPES took part in the seminar “Culture in policymaking: a burden or a boost for the European Union?”, which was held on 26 September 2025 at the European University Institute in Florence.
The seminar gathered academics, policymakers, and experts to reflect on the place of culture in European policymaking and its potential to address key challenges facing the EU in today’s complex geopolitical and technological context. Discussions focused on how the cultural and audiovisual sectors, including cultural diplomacy, can strengthen the Union’s competitiveness, international visibility, and contribution to global priorities such as sustainability.
The event featured presentations from four Horizon Europe projects at the heart of these debates: REBOOT and CresCine, which investigate the competitiveness and circulation of European cinema; ANIMA MUNDI, which explores how the animation industry can enhance the international promotion of European values and creativity; and StreamSCAPES, which analyses the role of VOD platforms and the cultural sector in driving the climate transition.
For ANIMA MUNDI and StreamSCAPES, the seminar was an opportunity to present ongoing work and to engage directly with EU policy experts on the broader implications of their research.
By connecting academic insights with policy perspectives, the seminar highlighted how culture and audiovisual industries are not a burden but a strategic asset for the European Union, both internally and as a global actor.
