D2.2 Report on European VOD Services

StreamSCAPES has published D2.2 – Report on European VOD Services, a comprehensive comparative assessment led by EVEN and EUI. This report examines how VOD platforms across Europe are approaching the Sustainable Climate Transition, drawing on interviews with industry professionals, written questionnaires, and a rapid evidence review.

The analysis highlights how sustainability in the VOD sector remains at an early and uneven stage. While awareness is growing, implementation varies widely across production, digital distribution, consumption practices, and
carbon measurement.

The report identifies major structural challenges such as limited observability, knowledge gaps, and strong dependence on external providers that shape what platforms can realistically achieve. It also outlines three transition pathways reflecting different levels of capacity and operational maturity across the sector.
